Welcome to Vicky Welch Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier home page. Our goal is to raise top quality Yorkshire Terriers (also known as Yorkies) and Maltese dogs that are an excellent representative of the AKC breed standard. Our puppies are well socialized, calm, outgoing little darlings with very happy tails. We breed for type as well as temperament.

What about these terms "teacup, t-cup, micro mini" etc.? These words are simply descriptive terms used by the public to describe an adult dog that weighs less than 4 pounds. It really is no different than using the term "baby doll face" "teddy bear face". It is simply a clarification. The terms are not recognized by AKC nor any of the Maltese clubs or Yorkshire Terrier Clubs. Yorkshire Terriers and Maltese are both in the Toy Group of the American Kennel Club (AKC), with the standard being 4-7 pounds. We do not advertise that we are breeders of Teacup Maltese or Teacup Yorkies, although I do understand what you are looking for if you contact me with that request, I certainly will not criticize you for seeking a small dog. I am happy to work with you to make the perfect match for your family. Most of our Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese moms are in the 4-5 pound range, some of my little dads are smaller. We do occasionally have the very tiny pups that mature below the standard weight of 4 pounds. We do not raise any of the mixed breed designer doggies. My response to people seeking a cross bred dog (which is what a designer pup is) is to adopt one from your local shelter. Our goal is to provide a very healthy puppy to you from AKC registered DNA Certified Championship dogs. Smaller healthy Yorkies and Maltese live just as long and wonderful a life as a 7 pound Yorkie or Maltese. They do require a little different care and feeding. Remember, a well bred dog is your most healthy, trainable and beautiful puppy.

We've always tried to be good stewards of our land and animals. We strive not to over vaccinate our dogs or to use harsh chemicals. We are always looking for a ways to be "more green". I prefer the organic approach to keep our yard flea and tick free so that we don't need to use any flea control on our Yorkies and Maltese. I am always reading and researching about holistic vet care and ways to help our dogs live long healthy lives.
